Hey everybody David Ursino talking to you about Vaughan real estate as always.  There’s been an interesting news story coming out over the past couple of days about a couple wanting to sell their home in Markham and it happens to have a number 4 in the address.  Apparently in the Chinese culture, number 4 is bad luck.  The pronunciation of “four” is the same as the pronunciation of “death”.  So a lot of Chinese people don’t want to have that number 4 in their address.  It’s really interesting when something like this happens.  We live in the GTA and as well all know it’s very multi-cultural, we have all kinds of different people living together which is fantastic.  Apparently having this number 4 in your address will decrease your value by about $30-40k.  That’s what their saying for that house specifically.  I don’t know if I believe that evaluation.  $30-40k sounds pretty excessive to me.  You could always sell the house to someone that’s not Chinese and doesn’t care about the number 4.  But it’s interesting nonetheless.  I always find it interesting, especially as a real estate agent, when you’re dealing with so many different cultures, the kind of superstitions people have, the ways they have when we’re negotiating, things that they’re use to, not use to, I find it always interesting and it’s always exciting dealing with people of different cultures – I love it.  So if you’re thinking of buying a home, you might want to consider that, especially if you’re moving into an area that’s predominantly Chinese in this case – you’d stay away from the number 4.  So that’s it, I just thought it was an interesting thing to share.  If you have any questions about Vaughan real estate by all means, shoot me an email.  I’m at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
